UC Davis Extension and Western Cooling Efficiency Center announce the debut of “Advanced Western Cooling Technologies,” a one-day class, on Friday, March 6, from 8 a.m.-5p.m., in Davis.

 “This class is a unique collaboration between UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center and UC Davis Extension,” said Jim Smith, director of engineering at UC Davis Extension. “Students will learn that it takes more than A/C to cool California.” The morning session will focus on the climate of the west – its challenges and its opportunities – and in the afternoon, students will divide into teams to analyze the performance of different systems. Participants will learn the fundamentals of how sophisticated cooling systems work, and what’s hot in the cooling business. They’ll probe the thermodynamic principles behind advanced evaporative cooling, radiant cooling and cool water storage. In addition, students will tour UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center where these technologies are already up and running.
