Derrick Ross is a research and development engineer at the UC Davis Western Cooling Efficiency Center. Derrick serves as the laboratory manager at the center where he designs and conducts controlled experiments to characterize promising emerging technology products for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. Derrick uses his five years of experience with experimental design, computer modeling, and equipment performance characterization to improve energy efficiency of building systems in the state of California. While at the center, he has worked on projects including improving the efficiency of dehumidification for indoor farming, development of a testing protocol for evaporative condenser pre-coolers, characterization of a retrofit package to optimize roof top unit performance, and improving the energy and water efficiency of industrial dairies. Derrick received his M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of California, Davis and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida.
