Mitchal Dichter has a BS in Computer Science from UC Davis and an MS in Applied Mathematics from the University of Washington. Prior to working at the WCEC, Mitchal worked at UCSB's Campus Learning Assistance Services teaching mathematics to undergraduates and authored the solutions manual for "Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos" by Steven Strogatz, a standard textbook in dynamical systems.
Mitchal uses his background in numerical methods and computer science to optimize code and automate tasks at the WCEC. He's currently working on automating generation of building models in EnergyPlus to find the most cost effective ZNE buildings in all California climate zones and data acquisition from wireless sensors in buildings.
